Hanes Pentyrch History

Llanilltern Houses

Pencoed is the oldest house in the chapelry dating from the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th and again in the 16th centuries but a magnificent arch survives from the original building. The name Pen-coed, the end of the wood, signifies that it was built at the end of Parc Coed Marchan then a forest of the lordship of Meisgyn.

Capel House was until the mid-19th century the local hostelry. The earliest recorded innkeeper at Capel   is Rowland Carey, licensee from about 1730.

Llanfair Fach, originally a two-unit house built in the 17th century.

The Star Inn built in the mid-19th century, became the local hostelry until the building of the motorway in 1980.
