Pencoed is the oldest house in the chapelry dating from the 14th century. It was rebuilt in the 15th and again in the 16th centuries but a magnificent arch survives from the original building. The name Pen-coed, the end of the wood, signifies that it was built at the end of Parc Coed Marchan then a forest of the lordship of Meisgyn. |
Capel House was until the mid-19th century the local hostelry. The earliest recorded innkeeper at Capel is Rowland Carey, licensee from about 1730. |
Llanfair Fach, originally a two-unit house built in the 17th century. |
The Star Inn built in the mid-19th century, became the local hostelry until the building of the motorway in 1980. |
