Hanes Pentyrch History

Gwaelod y Garth developed from being a quiet part of rural Pentyrch to a bustle of industrial activity. On the lower right is the brick works.

The Garth and the Pentyrch Iron Works in 1905. The proximity of coal, limestone and iron stone brought new people in to develop the resources. Many houses were built on the Garth close to the coal outcrops.

Gwaelod-y-Garth Hotel built in the 1840s.

The top end of Gwaelod y Garth about 1910. The houses were built about 1845 on land owned by the iron works.
