Garth Burial Mounds

The Garth Hill Burial Mounds date from the Early-Middle Bronze Age about 2,000BC. These mounds are recorded as Round cairns in the Stone Age and Bronze Age inventory of the Royal Commission for Ancient and Historical Monuments and they are also scheduled as ancient sites by CADW.

The Garth has been central to the life of the area since prehistoric times. The Bronze Age burial mounds had already been there over two thousand years before the Romans arrived. Throughout the following ages the deforested hill became a pilgrimage for pagan and modern puritans seeking the high ground for worship. For centuries it has been farmed and also mined for minerals.
