Wales Prepares for National Remembrance Sunday Ceremony in Cardiff
Cardiff is set to host the National Service of Remembrance for Wales on Sunday, November 9, in a ceremony jointly organised by Cardiff Council and the Welsh Government, in partnership with The Royal British Legion.
The commemorative event will see detachments from the Royal Navy, Army, Royal Air Force, Merchant Navy, and Cadet Forces march past City Hall and along King Edward VII Avenue, assembling at the Welsh National War Memorial in Alexandra Gardens, Cathays Park by 10:40am. They will be joined by columns of ex-Service personnel, coordinated by The Royal British Legion, and representatives from organisations linked to both current and past conflicts.
From 10:30am, the Canton Salvation Army Band will provide a musical prelude, leading up to the service’s commencement just before 11am. The ceremony will open with words from Reverend Canon Stewart Lisk, Honorary Chaplain to Cardiff Council, and feature choral performances by the Cardiff Military Wives Choir Caerdydd and the National St John Ambulance Cymru Choir.
Cardiff Castle to host 2025 Welsh National Field of Remembrance
Cardiff Castle will host the 2025 Welsh National Field of Remembrance, as Wales prepares to mark Remembrance Sunday.
On Wednesday 5th November, an opening ceremony will bring together civic leaders, including the Lord Mayor of Cardiff, Cllr Adrian Robson, Cardiff Council Leader, Cllr Huw Thomas and Welsh Government representative Jane Hutt, to honour the memory of those who have served and lost their lives in conflicts past and present.
Dignitaries will take part in a Two Minute Silence and write personal tributes and plant commemorative crosses in the castle grounds, continuing a tradition that connects generations and communities across Wales.

Cardiff’s urban forest set to grow again: 30,000 new trees to be planted by spring 2026
Cardiff Council’s ambitious ‘Coed Caerdydd’ project is preparing for a busy six months, with plans to plant a further 30,000 trees in the city’s green spaces, as well as on its streets and in school, community and privately-owned spaces by spring next year.
The plan aims to build on the success of the past four years, which has seen:
more than 118,500 trees planted at hundreds of locations across Cardiff, transforming an area the equivalent of almost 30 Principality Stadium pitches into a new urban forest.
local volunteers, schools, businesses, and community groups contribute over 16,000 hours to planting and caring for the new trees.
