Read, Relax, Recover: Free library books available in Cardiff hospitals

Patients, visitors and staff at Cardiff’s hospitals can enjoy free, round-the-clock access to books, thanks to a partnership between Cardiff Hubs and Libraries and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board.

Four library vending machines are available at:

  • University Hospital of Wales (concourse)

  • Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospital (near the café)

  • University Hospital Llandough (Outpatients reception)

  • University Hospital Llandough (Hospital Restaurant)

The machines are stocked with a wide range of fiction, non-fiction, and health and wellbeing titles—including books from the Reading Well Books on Prescription scheme, recommended by health experts and people with lived experience.

Anyone with a Cardiff Library card can borrow a book for free, 24 hours a day. Books can be returned to the vending machine they were borrowed from, or to any Cardiff hub or library.

Construction well underway on Waungron Road housing and transport hub

Work is progressing well on the delivery of 44 new council homes and an integrated transport hub in Llandaff.

Located on the site of the former recycling centre on Waungron Road, work on site is progressing well with the groundworks well underway. The development is part of the Council’s Cardiff Living programme and is being delivered by the Council’s partners, national developer Wates Residential.

The site will provide 44 one and two-bed new council apartments, alongside office and commercial spaces, with a new access road designed to integrate a transport hub so that people can interchange between Waun-Gron Park Train Station and the new bus facility to travel to other destinations without having to travel into the city centre.

The new transport facility will be able to accommodate up to 40 bus movements per hour, providing access to buses travelling west to south, north to south, and west to east, and vice versa.
