‘Little Gigs’ back with a bang at Cardiff Music City Festival 2025
The spotlight is set to shine on some of Cardiff’s brightest young musical talent as ‘Little Gigs’ returns for a special showcase at this year’s Cardiff Music City Festival.
Taking place on Wednesday 15 October at one of the city’s vibrant festival venues, this one-off gig will feature six standout bands from the 2024/25 Little Gigs series — a grassroots talent development initiative that’s been making waves across Cardiff’s music scene.
Inspired in their schools by live gigs from established artists, these talented young pupils have gone on to receive expert mentoring, enjoy workshops on designing their own merch, deliver electrifying performances at Pride Cymru and grow into confident performers and creators. Now, they’re ready to take the stage once again — this time as part of a two-week celebration of Cardiff’s musical culture and creative spirit.
Oakfield Primary School leads the way in eco-education and sustainability
Oakfield Primary School in St Mellons is setting a powerful example to schools across Wales with its commitment to sustainability and environmental education.
As the first school in Wales to take part in ‘Our Classroom Climate’, a hands-on climate change programme, pupils from the school have embraced science-based learning about carbon emissions and climate change with passion and enthusiasm.
Building on this momentum, Oakfield Primary School’s Eco Warriors have driven change within their school and local community. Their dedication has been recognised this year with the Bronze Eco School Award, celebrating their efforts to improve the environment through active travel initiatives, ‘Walk to School’ weeks, and vital conversations on road safety.
The Eco Warriors’ efforts extend beyond the classroom. They have organised litter picks, planted trees, and proudly represented the school at the One Planet Cardiff Awards, where they achieved second place in recognition of their achievements. Thanks to a generous donation from the school’s Parent Teacher Association, the Eco Warriors have invested in resources such as bird feeders, litter pickers, and binoculars to encourage wildlife observation and inspire curiosity about the natural world.
Road closures for the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon on October 5th
With the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, October 5th, the city is expected to be exceptionally busy, so residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journey.
From 5am on Wednesday October 1st, road closures will start to be put in place at the Civic Centre to set up the race village for the event.
