Road closures for the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon on October 5th
With the Oysho Cardiff Half Marathon taking place on Sunday, October 5th, the city is expected to be exceptionally busy, so residents and visitors are advised to plan ahead and leave plenty of time for their journey.
From 5am on Wednesday October 1st, road closures will start to be put in place at the Civic Centre to set up the race village for the event.
New community allotment plot providing Cancer support
A new community allotment plot providing support to people affected by Cancer has opened at Cardiff Council’s Forest Farm allotment site.
Once overgrown and out of use, the plot has been brought back into use by the local allotment society in partnership with two Cancer support charities, Maggies and Ray of Light Cancer Support Wales.

Cardiff Council’s Parks team have won a prestigious APSE Service Award.
Hosted by the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE), the awards honour excellence in frontline public services across the UK.
The 2025 award ceremony saw Cardiff Council’s Parks team named “Best Service Team” in the Parks, Grounds and Horticultural Service category, reflecting the team’s commitment to improving the lives of residents through outstanding service delivery.
Ty’r Groes: Cardiff’s second state-of-the-art Community Living Scheme for older people
A new, modern Community Living Scheme delivering high-quality, low-carbon, affordable housing for older residents has officially launched in Riverside.
Ty’r Groes, located on Leckwith Road on the site of the former Canton Community Hall, takes its name from the nearby crossroads where Cowbridge Road East, Llandaff Road, and Leckwith Road converge.
This is the second of Cardiff Council’s new-build Community Living schemes, following the opening of Addison House in Rumney in December 2023. It directly responds to the needs identified in the Council’s Older Persons’ Housing Strategy, which aims to provide homes that support residents as they age.
New era for housing delivery in Cardiff and Vale
Cardiff Council, Vale of Glamorgan Council and housing specialist Lovell Partnerships have formally established a partnership to deliver a transformative housing scheme across the region.
The first of its kind in recent years with two councils working together with a developer, the collaboration marks a significant milestone in the local authorities’ commitment to providing high-quality, affordable, and market-sale homes for communities in their areas.
Marking the formal start of the partnership, after Lovell Partnerships was appointed as preferred bidder to deliver the Cardiff and Vale Housing Partnership earlier this year, Leader of Cardiff Council, Cllr Huw Thomas and Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities, Cllr Lynda Thorne were joined by Leader of Vale of Glamorgan Council, Councillor Lis Burnett and Vale Cabinet Member for Public Sector Housing and Tenant Engagement, Cllr Sandra Perkes and Regional Managing Director, James Duffett, Regional Project Director, Shane Jay andRegeneration and Partnerships Director, Mary Parsons from Lovell at County Hall, Cardiff Bay today to sign the partnership charter.
The charter sets the partnership’s vision and objectives to deliver affordable homes and regenerate communities across Cardiff and the Vale, with around 2,500 homes including around 1,600 new council homes across 25 sites.
Cardiff launches new guidance to help keep schools and educational settings safe
New guidance to help Cardiff schools and education settings stay as safe as possible for pupils and staff, has been released by Cardiff Council.
The Weapons in Schools and Educational Settings Guidance is part of a wider suite of guidance and support to help schools in keeping all young people and school staff safe.
It is the first of its kind to be released in Wales and has been received by The Welsh Government who welcomes the guidance and the simple, practical advice it offers to schools. The Welsh Government are discussing how to build on the guidance to ensure all local authorities and schools can benefit from Cardiff’s work.
