Cardiff joins global Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign

Cardiff Council has become the first Welsh local authority to join The Carter Center’s Inform Women, Transform Lives campaign, a global initiative that supports cities to improve women’s access to essential services and support through better information sharing.

Launched by The Carter Center—a non-governmental, non-profit organisation founded by former US President Jimmy Carter and Rosalynn Carter—the campaign aims to raise awareness of women’s right to information and connect women with details about city services that can benefit them, their families, and their communities.

Applications open for second round of Cardiff’s Grassroots Music Venue Fund

Cardiff Council has announced a second round of funding for the city’s grassroots music venues, building on the success of initial funding last year, which saw nearly £200,000 awarded to independent venues across the capital.

The ‘Cardiff Grassroots Venue Fund’ offers capital grants of up to £7,500 to help venues become more financially and environmentally sustainable, with strategic projects exceeding £7,500 also considered.

Made possible by support from the UK Government alongside income generated through last summer’s series of outdoor concerts at Blackweir Fields, the fund forms part of the Council’s work to put music at the centre of the city’s future development.

Bryn Celyn Primary School officially opens community shop and growing provision

Bryn Celyn Primary School in Pentwyn has officially opened Big Bocs Bwyd, a Wales-grown initiative that sets up “pay-as-you-feel” food hubs in schools, aiming to tackle food insecurity, promote climate action, and strengthen community wellbeing.

The school now hosts an attractive shop in a modified shipping container and additional secure storage.

Funded by the National Lottery, in partnership with Fareshare, neighbourly and local supermarkets and with support from Castell Howell, the project is a response to the cost-of-living crisis and has grown into a nationally recognised movement, now expanding to 100 schools across Wales.
