Continued investment in high rise fire safety
_________________________________________________
Cardiff Council has reaffirmed its long‑term commitment to fire safety in its high‑rise homes, continuing the significant programme of upgrade works introduced following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
Extensive improvements have already been delivered across the Council’s high‑rise housing portfolio, and further works are now set to begin as part of ongoing investment in residents’ safety.
Over the coming weeks, surveys will begin ahead of the replacement of front and communal fire doors in several high‑rise buildings, including Channel View, Sycamore House, Maelfa and Lydstep flats. Installing modern, upgraded fire doors will provide a substantial boost to safety within individual homes and communal areas.
Work is scheduled to begin in the spring, starting at Channel View.

New ‘housing with care’ apartments for older people open in St Mellons

Cardiff Council’s newest housing development for older people — Llys Y Goetre in St Mellons - has officially opened.
The new ‘housing with care’ scheme provides 60 modern, self‑contained one‑ and two‑bedroom council apartments, centrally located within the community and close to local shops and essential facilities.
Supported by Welsh Government’s Social Housing Grant, it is the latest development to be delivered as part of the Council’s older person’s accommodation programme, following the recent completion of the Ty’r Groes development on Leckwith Road, with a further Community Living scheme on Bute Street due to complete in the coming months.
Illegal Dog Breeders Sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court
__________________________________________________
Three illegal dog breeders have been sentenced for unlawful dog breeding and animal cruelty last week at Cardiff Crown Court.
Turan Kiran, 48, and Cetin Kiral, 34, were sentenced on January 21 following reports of the smell of a “dead body” coming from a property. When officers attended, they found 38 dogs living in extremely poor conditions, with a strong smell of urine and faeces throughout the premises.
Kiran initially claimed that only 20 dogs were at the property but admitted he did not hold a dog breeders’ licence. The property was unfit for both human and animal habitation, and 17 of the dogs were found to be suffering and in pain.
