Wales National Ceremony to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day 2026
The theme for Holocaust Memorial Day 2026 is ‘Bridging Generations’. It is a reminder that the responsibility of remembrance does not end with the survivors - it lives on through their children, their grandchildren and through all of us. The theme encourages engagement with events of the past, through listening and learning, and by carrying those lessons forward.
‘Shape My Street, Shape My School’ wins Inspire Future Generations Awards 2025
Cardiff Council’s Cardiff Commitment is launching ‘Shape My Street, Shape My School’ for the third year running with the Welsh School of Architecture. The award-winning scheme brings together pupils, schools, industry partners and designers to celebrate a programme already recognised nationally for its impact.
Developed by the Welsh School of Architecture, Cardiff Council’s Cardiff Commitment Team, teachers and industry partners, the initiative has already been acknowledged at the Inspire Future Generations Awards 2025 (IFGA25) and scooped top prize in the Education category, in recognition of excellence and impact in empowering children and young people to advocate for a better built environment.
Applications for 2026 nursery places now open
Applications for nursery school places are now open and parents with children who turn three between September 1st 2025 and August 31st 2026, can now apply for a part-time nursery place to start in September 2026.
English and Welsh medium places are available at one of the 92 nursery classes in 89 schools across the city, including three schools with a dual stream offer. Families are encouraged to apply before the deadline of Monday 23rd February 2026, to help their chance of being offered a nursery place of their choice.
