Pentyrch Community Council – June Update
Hello everyone,
Here’s a quick round-up of what the Community Council has been working on during June. As always, thank you to residents who continue to share feedback and stay involved.
Council business and governance
This month included some detailed “behind-the-scenes” work reviewing how the Council operates:
Standing Orders (the rules that govern how the council operates ) were reviewed, with some updates proposed to reflect current practice and simplify processes.
Work is ongoing to improve the Council website’s accessibility, with advice sought from Learning Disability Wales and others.
These changes won’t always be visible immediately, but they help ensure the Council runs effectively and remains accessible.
Planning and local development
The Council agreed to oppose potential development on greenfield sites as part of the Strategic Development Plan process.
Grants and community support
A number of local groups received financial support:
£500 for Creigiau Carnival (covering costs such as insurance and waste services)
£500 for 1st Creigiau Scout Group towards repairs to their site
£350 for Dynevor Gardening Association for equipment
Local environment and maintenance
Several ongoing projects and issues were discussed:
Maintenance work has started to clear the Terrace Woodlands site & install a path and steps.
Vegetation overgrowth (including footpaths, pavements, and road signs) continues to be a concern and is being raised with Cardiff Council.
Some longer-term issues—such as water run-off from Creigiau Quarry and erosion on the Garth—remain under review.
Transport and highways
Transport continues to be a recurring topic:
Discussions are ongoing about relocating Pentyrch bus stops (rather than removing them) to improve safety and accessibility.
Parking issues—particularly where cars block buses—have also been highlighted.
The Council is continuing to engage with Cardiff Council to explore practical solutions.
Community events and engagement
June was a busy month for local activities:
Creigiau Carnival took place on 27 June, with Councillors supporting and attending.
Pentyrch Village Hall celebrated its 50th anniversary, with a well-attended event bringing together over 100 people.
PCC helped organise a walk to promote using the 63 bus (use it or lose it) with visitors from Penarth, Danescourt, Radyr and Morganstown using the bus to come to Pentyrch.
The Pentyrch Litter Pick continues each month, meeting on the last Saturday, at Pentyrch shops.
Other local matters raised
Councillors also considered issues identified by residents, including :
Concerns about speeding, pavement safety, and road conditions
Fly-tipping
Use of shared spaces (such as the Garth and local recreation areas)
Quarry activity and its impact on residents
Looking ahead
The key area of focus for the coming weeks is the residents survey which will be included in the August edition of the Community Link.
Residents will be asked for their views on a range of issues, and the responses received will be the focus of the next Business Plan.
