Cardiff's New Indoor Arena Gets Final Go Ahead

Plans for Cardiff’s highly anticipated 16,500 capacity indoor arena have reached a significant milestone as Cardiff Council, and the consortium comprised of Live Nation and Robertson Property today announced financial close on the project.

The announcement marks a key step forward in delivering a state-of-the-art venue that will attract world-class artists and entertainment to the city.

Designed for music, with world class acoustics and stunning sight lines, the arena is expected to have a transformative impact not only on Cardiff’s cultural scene, but also on its economic landscape. The arena will create over 1000 jobs and, when open, attract more than one million visitors to the area annually.

Local children help shape designs for new sport and games facility in Hailey Park

More than 180 local school children have helped to shape designs for a new sport and games facility in Hailey Park.

The new facility forms part of a wider £2 million programme of Neighbourhood Renewal Schemes being delivered in communities across Cardiff this financial year.

Designed to be as inclusive as possible, the new facility features a practice area for football, hockey, calisthenics, rugby, netball and cricket. A central circle contains a half-court basketball area, volleyball markings and a space for football. A ‘catch-up’ area, with seating and a table-tennis table provides a separate space, away from active games and sport.

Litter Bins set for a Revamp to Encourage People to Dispose of Litter Responsibly

Litter bins in several Cardiff neighbourhoods are getting a colourful makeover to encourage people to use them properly and keep the streets clean.

The bins in Grangetown, Riverside, Adamsdown, Splott, Canton, Butetown, Cathays and Plasnewydd will be wrapped in eye catching designs with fun messages to remind everyone to put their rubbish in the bin instead of dropping it on the ground.

The scheme, funded through a £10,000 grant from McDonald’s and supported by the environmental charity, Hubbub, will upgrade the litter bins in these wards to improve the street scene and encourage people to use them. The campaign is based on the success of Hubbub’s Bristol Binning campaign, launched in Bristol city centre in 2022.

The new bin designs feature playful takes on song lyrics, gaming motifs and puns, encouraging passers-by to bin their rubbish, helping to keep local spaces clean and litter-free.
