Applications for secondary school places for children due to start Year 7 in September 2027 open today,Friday 4 September 2026.Applications must be submitted byFriday 30 October 2026.
Cardiff Council is urging families to apply on time and make full use of all five school preferences available on the application form. Choosing only one school can significantly reduce the likelihood of securing a preferred place, while listing multiple preferences gives children the best chance of receiving an offer that meets their needs.

Residents in parts of Cardiff can now apply to a new pilot scheme designed to make homes warmer, healthier and cheaper to run.
Applications for Tai Clyd Caerdydd opened 1 September, giving households in Fairwater, Adamsdown and parts of neighbouring Splott access to trusted energy efficiency advice, support and, where eligible, funding for home improvements.

With the cost of going back to school placing pressure on household budgets, Cardiff Council is encouraging families and schools to support an innovative scheme that helps parents save money while reducing environmental impact.
FreeSchoolClothes.com is a free, not-for-profit online platform that allows parents and carers to share and reuse outgrown school uniform and other school essentials within their own school community, completely free of charge.
Significant expansion of Additional Learning Needs provision to progress
Cardiff Council is set to continue its expansion of specialist education provision for children and young people with Additional Learning Needs.
Subject to Cabinet approval, the next stage of plans would significantly increase specialist education provision for children and young people with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) across the city, following a public consultation that showed strong support for the proposals.
The Phase 1 programme includes the creation of new specialist resource bases for learners with Autism and Social Communication Needs, Complex Learning Needs, and Emotional Health and Wellbeing Needs, alongside expanding capacity at two bases and a number of special schools.
