Outstanding results for Cardiff as pupils celebrate GCSEs 2025
Thousands of pupils from across Cardiff are celebrating after receiving their GCSE results, with performance in A*–C grades exceeding the Welsh average.
According to provisional WJEC GCSE results, 26.4% of Cardiff entries achieved A*–A grades, compared to the national figure of 19.5%.
Fairwater Community Campus: Where learning meets innovation, and sustainability meets opportunity
Fairwater Community Campus is a groundbreaking £110 million development that’s reshaping education in Cardiff, bringing together Cantonian High School, Woodlands High School, and Riverbank School on one state-of-the-art site.
The largest project in scale and investment delivered by Cardiff and Welsh Government’s Sustainable Communities for Learning programme, the campus goes beyond the boundaries of traditional schooling, focusing on supporting the Curriculum for Wales and on seven areas: Learning, arts, sports, post-16 education, inclusion, sustainability and community.
This month marks the first milestone in the completion of the project, with the official handover of the new Health and Wellbeing Hub to the Local Authority. Named Copa, the Welsh word for “summit”, the hub will serve as a centre for health, wellbeing, and sport. It features a dynamic activity studio, a dedicated maker space, a state-of-the-art gym, and outdoor sports pitches. These facilities will support pupils during the school day and open their doors to community groups in the evenings, encouraging connections and helping to strengthen Cardiff’s community spirit.
Litter Bins set for a Revamp to Encourage People to Dispose of Litter Responsibly
Litter bins in several Cardiff neighbourhoods are getting a colourful makeover to encourage people to use them properly and keep the streets clean.
The bins in Grangetown, Riverside, Adamsdown, Splott, Canton, Butetown, Cathays and Plasnewydd will be wrapped in eye catching designs with fun messages to remind everyone to put their rubbish in the bin instead of dropping it on the ground.
The scheme, funded through a £10,000 grant from McDonald’s and supported by the environmental charity, Hubbub, will upgrade the litter bins in these wards to improve the street scene and encourage people to use them.
Community building grants awarded to 14 Cardiff organisations
Fourteen community organisations across Cardiff have been awarded funding through the city’s Community Building Grants Scheme, helping them fund works to enhance the existing community facilities.
Funded by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund, the scheme offers grants of up to £10,000 to support upgrades that make community buildings more accessible, energy-efficient, and welcoming to the wider public.
The latest round of awards will support a wide range of improvements, including fire safety upgrades, kitchen refurbishments, toilet and heating improvements, and enhanced security measures.
